Sarinasadat Hosseini, a 25-year-old relative of slain Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, has come under investigation after her arrest by US immigration officials in Los Angeles.Hosseini is the granddaughter of Soleimani, a former commander of Iran’s Quds Force who was killed in a US drone strike in 2020.Hosseini entered the United States on a student visa in 2015 and later obtained lawful permanent residence (green card) in 2023. His mother, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar, is Soleimani’s niece and was granted asylum and then a green card.Both women were arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after the US State Department revoked their residency status. Officials said the action was taken due to alleged ties to the Iranian regime.US officials specifically pointed to Afshar’s activities, alleging that he promoted Iranian government propaganda, supported the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, and expressed anti-American views on social media while living in the United States. Hosseini was detained along with his mother after his legal status was revoked. Both women are now in ICE custody and face deportation from the United States.Hosseini had been living in the US for several years and had shared aspects of his lavish lifestyle on social media, including traveling around the country, expensive cars and luxurious clothes.The arrests are part of a broader move by US authorities to target people believed to have ties to or support foreign regimes considered hostile to the US, particularly amid heightened tensions over war with Iran.There is no indication from US officials that Hosseini himself has been charged with any criminal offence. The action against him following the revocation of his green card is linked to immigration status and national security concerns.
