In a shocking incident, actor Vinayakan, who rose to fame for his role in Rajinikanth’s film Jailer, was arrested for allegedly misbehaving with the staff at the Hyderabad airport. The incident took place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport when the actor was travelling from Kochi to Goa.

According to several reports, Vinayakan was in a drunken state when he got into a fight with airport officials. In this article, we will talk in detail about who Vinayakan is.

Who is Vinayakan?

Vinayakan is an Indian actor, former dancer and musician known for his works primarily in the Tamil and Malayalam industries. The actor began his career in the film industry in 1995. Vinayakan has played a cameo role in the film Maathrikam.

Notably, the actor is a recipient of the prestigious Kerala State Film Award. He received the Best Actor honour for his lead role in the 2016 film Kammatipaadam., The actor also made his debut as a music composer in the same film.

He has also composed the music for the title track of Trance (2020). Vinayakan has also sung songs for Rafi’s film Role Models and filmmaker Sugeeth’s directorial debut Ordinary in 2012.

Vinayakan is known for his performances in films like Aadu – Oru Bhegara Jeevi Aanu and its successor Aadu 2, Stop Violence, Vellithira, Chathikkatha Chanthu, Chotta Mumbai and Thottappan. Notably, the actor has also worked in a few Bollywood films.

Vinayakan’s role as Ayyappan in Lijo Jose Pelissery’s Ee. Ma. Yai received widespread recognition and praise for his exceptional performance. Recently, he caught everyone’s attention by sharing the silver screen with superstar Rajinikanth in his last blockbuster film Jailor. Vinayakan plays Varman in the 2023 film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.

Vinayakan’s controversies

Recently, Vinayakan was detained at Hyderabad airport for allegedly misbehaving with the staff. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) had to intervene to control the situation. However, the actor was immediately taken into custody.

CISF then handed him over to the airport police. According to a report by Onmanorama, Vinayakan was released on bail after his misbehaviour incident. He then told the media that CISF officers assaulted him. Vinayakan said, “I don’t know why I am being detained. I have not done anything wrong. CCTV footage can be checked for proof.”

However, this is not the first time that Vinayakan has been embroiled in a controversy. In 2023 too, he was detained for creating a ruckus at the Ernakulam police station. Vinayakan had reached the station to settle a personal matter, but things escalated when the actor allegedly lost his temper under the influence of alcohol.

In the same year, the Jailer actor landed in legal trouble after he made controversial remarks on the demise of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

Moreover, during a press meet for his 2022 film Oruthi, he stirred controversy by commenting on the #MeToo movement. Vinayakan said that if simply demanding sex is considered a part of #MeToo, then he too has participated in such behaviour. However, after receiving massive criticism from netizens, he apologised for his statements.
