Telangana Minister Konda Surekha sparked controversy with her derogatory remarks about the divorce of Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya. According to a report in Deccan Herald, the politician alleged that Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao (KTR) was the reason behind the former couple’s divorce. Soon after, Surekha’s controversial comments faced sharp criticism from various quarters.
What was Konda Surekha’s statement?
Konda Surekha is an Indian politician who serves as the Cabinet Minister for Forests and Environment and Endowments under the Government of Telangana.
While interacting with the media, the minister claimed that BRS leader KTR ruined the lives of many actresses in Telugu cinema. Talking about the divorce of the Kushi actress and Naga Chaitanya, Konda Surekha alleged, “KTR asked to send Samantha in return for not demolishing the N-Convention Centre. Nagarjuna asked Samantha to go to KTR. Forced. Samantha said no. This resulted in divorce.”
The politician further said, “KTR is the reason behind Samantha-Naga Chaitanya’s divorce. Many actresses got married early because of him.”
How did the Akkineni family react to the controversy?
Nagarjuna expressed disappointment with Telangana Minister Konda Surekha and criticized his actions. He wrote on his X handle, “I strongly condemn the comments of Honorable Minister Smt. Do it.”
The Kubera actor concluded his statement by requesting the politician to take back his comments and desist from making such “false” allegations.

Naga Chaitanya was shocked by Telangana Minister’s comment on divorce from Samantha. They wrote a long note explaining that they have decided to separate due to their different life goals. The Thandale actor wrote, “The decision to divorce is easily one of the most painful and unfortunate life decisions that anyone has to take. After much consideration, my ex-husband and I have decided to mutually separate. This It was a decision taken peacefully because of our different life goals and in the interest of moving forward with dignity and respect as two mature adults.”
Naga Chaitanya concluded his message by calling Surekha’s allegations ‘ridiculous’ and ‘unacceptable’.

Nagarjuna’s wife Amala and son Akhil Akkineni also came forward to support their family and condemn the politician’s actions. Amala accused Surekha of creating “slanderous stories” about her husband without knowing the truth. He also criticized the minister for behaving like “criminals”.
Akhil supported his mother’s statement and said, “I’m sorry you have to address this monstrous nonsense, but sometimes we have no choice but to deal with such sociopaths.”

Samantha Ruth Prabhu takes a stand for herself
Samantha Ruth Prabhu called out Surekha for dragging her name into such a political fight. The Citadel actress released a long statement on her Instagram stories amid the ongoing controversy. Samantha wrote, “I hope you realize that as a minister your words carry vital importance. I urge you to be responsible and respectful of individuals’ privacy. My divorce is a personal matter, and I “I request you to please refrain from speculating about this. Our choice to keep things private does not invite misrepresentation.”
He further said that their divorce was by mutual consent and had nothing to do with any political matter. For those unaware, Samantha and Naga Chaitanya got divorced in 2021 after four years of their marriage in 2017.

Chiranjeevi, Jr NTR, Allu Arjun and other celebrities condemned Surekha’s actions
Amid the ongoing controversy, many A-listers of Telugu cinema including Naga Chaitanya and Samantha came together to support Ruth Prabhu. He criticized Surekha’s controversial comments on the former couple and urged her not to drag his name into their political feuds.
Chiranjeevi, Jr NTR, Allu Arjun, Nani, Varun Tej Konidela and many other actors attacked the politician through their social media handles. Movie Artistes Association (MAA) President Vishnu Manchu also issued a long note on behalf of the committee.

KTR issues legal notice against Surekha
BRS leader KTR sent a legal notice to Surekha for making such serious allegations against him to tarnish his reputation. They demanded that he withdraw his public statements and apologize within 24 hours. KTR further asked Surekha to refrain from any lawsuit against him.

Surekha withdrew her statement on Samantha
Surekha wrote on her social media handle X that she never wanted to hurt anyone’s sentiments. The politician further said that after receiving feedback from various quarters, he has withdrawn his comments on Samantha.
Surekha wrote, “If you or your fans are hurt by my comments, I unconditionally withdraw my comments… don’t think otherwise.”
