An Indian original postdotoral Associate Badar Khan Suri has been arrested at the University of Georgetown in the US and has to face exile. He is teaching a class on “Promotionalism and Minority Rights in South Asia”. According to a statement by a spokesman at the University of Georgetown, Mr. Suri “received an American visa” to continue his doctoral research on peace making in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Politico reported that Shri Suri was arrested on Monday night by “masked agents” outside his house in Virginia. He has been accused of “spreading Hamas Publicity” and said that “a known or suspected terrorist has a close relationship with”.
Trisia McLaglin, Assistant Secretary, Homeland Security, wrote on X, “Suri was a foreign currency student at the University of Georgetpown, who actively spread the Hamas promotion and promoted antisementism on social media.”
“Suri has a close relationship with a known or suspected terrorist, a senior advisor to Hamas. The State Secretary issued a determination on March 15, 2025 that Suri’s activities and appearance in the United States exerted him under the INA section 237 (a) (4) (4) (c) (i).”
