Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has revealed that he is open to the “idea of God”, but his views are shaped by a physics-based perspective of reality. The Tesla CEO shared his views on the existence of a higher power in an interview with German leader Alice Widel on January 10.
When Musk was asked if he believed in God, he said, “I’m willing to believe things based on the information I get.” He elaborated, describing his perspective as rooted in a “physical view of reality”, adding, “I’m just open to the idea of God.”
Musk reflected on the origin of the universe, suggesting that the concept of God could apply to the creation of the universe. The SpaceX CEO admitted, “If you say, where did the universe come from? How was it created? I guess there would be some entity you could call God. I don’t know.”
But Musk also drew a distinction between a creative entity and a moral observer. He questioned whether such an entity was monitoring our daily activities and passing moral judgments. He said, “It doesn’t seem that way because, you know, at least some very bad things happen in the world.” “If someone is constantly looking at us on a moral basis, it seems strange that some very bad things are allowed to happen.”
Despite his uncertainties, Musk said, “That’s probably the case. I don’t know what I learned. And as I learn more, I’m willing to change my views to match what I’ve learned.” “

Last year, Musk described himself as a “cultural Christian” during an interview with psychologist and author Jordan Peterson. While not a “particularly religious person”, Musk said he believes in the wisdom of Christian teachings, particularly the principle of “turning the other cheek”.

Musk said that Christian beliefs would result in “the greatest happiness for humanity considering not only the present, but all future humans… I really am a big believer in the principles of Christianity. I think That they are very good.”
