WhatsApp is expected to introduce another change to the interface. Not a major change, but the go-to messenger application is updating its verification system, replacing the existing green badge with a blue checkmark for verified businesses and channels. The move is in line with Meta’s broader efforts to create a consistent visual identity for verified accounts across all its platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, ultimately boosting trust and authenticity for users. It appears that WhatsApp now wants to offer iOS users the same opportunity to experiment with the new checkmark as it already does for the Android version.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has switched to a blue checkmark for verified businesses and channels to align with Meta’s broader visual identity. This update replaces the old green badge, creating a consistent look across the platform and strengthening trust with users. The blue checkmark ensures authenticity, protects users from potential impersonation and facilitates secure engagement with verified businesses and channels.

By adopting a consistent visual identity across meta platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, users can easily identify verified accounts, building trust and familiarity. This unified approach strengthens brand identity, making it easier for users to identify authentic accounts and engage with confidence. The feature is currently available to some users who install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app, and will be rolled out to more people in the coming weeks.

The move can also be seen as a response to Meta Verified, a feature announced by Mark Zuckerberg two months ago and available to some businesses in certain markets.

Meta AI on WhatsApp

Meta announced Meta AI for all its platforms including WhatsApp. The company claims that its Meta AI can help users with everyday tasks, learning, and creative work. Launched at Meta Connect last year and powered by the latest Llama 3 technology, Meta AI has been spreading globally since April and is now accessible to users in India.

On WhatsApp, Meta AI can be summoned in group chats to help make plans and make suggestions. Whether you need restaurant recommendations for dinner or itinerary ideas for a road trip, the company says users can ask Meta AI in their WhatsApp conversations. To access Meta AI directly, you can look for a blue-purple circle icon at the top of the app once the update is available on your device.
