Dalton Eatherly, known online as Chud the Builder, is still being held in the Montgomery County Jail in Clarksville, Tennessee, while he faces attempted murder charges in connection with the shooting of Joshua Fox outside the Montgomery County Courthouse. The livestreamer is now gaining attention for a different reason as he has claimed that prison officials took away his Bible and refused to return it. The allegation came to light through a social media post shared on June 7, 2026, and later reposted on Chud the Builder’s official X account.According to a statement quoted by Dalton Eatherly and shared by Tyler Hansen, a field reporter on X, the Bible was taken after he was released from solitary confinement. Eatherly claimed that prison staff replaced the physical Bible with a tablet that repeatedly crashed and lost power, making it difficult for him to read scripture. He also alleged that a request to get the Bible back was rejected. As of now, prison officials have not publicly responded to those claims.

Dalton Eatherly says Montgomery County jail staff denied request to return Bible

In a statement shared online, Dalton Eatherly said he was studying scripture daily while in custody and did not understand why the Bible was removed. The statement read, “I have asked very kindly and politely, even offering to pay whatever amount they want, for a copy of the physical Bible, which for some reason I have had access to for weeks, but I am being refused. Admin Captain Oaks is sending me all the big replies with obvious frustration and vindictiveness, indicating a clear malicious interference in my religious studies.”He also claimed that another prisoner living nearby had access to physical religious texts and argued that depriving him of a Bible was a violation of his religious freedom. The post was later reshared on Chud the Builder’s X account. His fiancée wrote that Eatherly had given her access to the account and he wanted to share the message because he wanted his Bible back. The controversy comes as Atherley remains in jail for the May 13 shooting death of Joshua Fox, a black disabled veteran. According to CNN, Etherly allegedly shot Fox multiple times outside the Montgomery County Courthouse after an altercation. After the incident, Etherly livestreamed and described his version of events. During court proceedings, his bond was initially set at $1.25 million, which was reduced to $1 million. On June 3, a judge refused to reduce it further.During that hearing, YouTuber Alex Rosen offered $100,000 for the bond amount. However, Judge William Goodman III rejected the motion, saying, “I’m not going to let him get into the bonding business.” At the time of publication, Dalton Eatherly remains incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail awaiting further legal proceedings.
