On September 9, actor Jayam Ravi announced his separation from now-estranged wife Aarti after 15 years of marriage. The news came as a shock, as the couple was considered a power couple in the South industry. Though speculations about Jayam Ravi and Aarti’s marriage were already doing the rounds on social media, it was confirmed by the former’s official post on Monday. Though the couple has not given any reason for their separation, several reports suggest that Aarti’s mother and brother are responsible for her divorce from the actor.
Among several theories, a report by FilmiBEAT claims that Aarti’s mother Sujatha Vijayakumar and her adopted son Shankar Jayam are the reason behind Ravi and Aarti’s separation. Moreover, it is also reported that the Ponniyin Selvan actor was involved in a shoot managed by his brother-in-law Shankar and mother-in-law Sujatha. During that time, there was some argument between them.
Moreover, Jayam Ravi had demanded a remuneration of Rs 25 crore for his next film with Pandiraj, but Sujatha Vijayakumar reportedly pressured the director to reduce the budget of the film as, according to her, Ravi does not have that market. This led to Pandiraj leaving the project.
Talking about the divorce announcement, Ravi said that it is very painful, but he took this decision after a proper discussion with Aarti. In his long social media post, he wrote, “After a lot of thought and discussion, I have taken the difficult decision to end my marriage with Aarti. This decision has not been taken in haste, but it has been taken for personal reasons, which I believe is in the best interest of everyone.”

Furthermore, the actor urged his fans and well-wishers to give them the much-needed privacy and not speculate about the reasons behind their separation. It is pertinent to mention that rumours of Jayam Ravi and Aarti’s separation have been doing the rounds for quite some time now. The speculations grew stronger when Aarti removed all the pictures with Jayam Ravi and the kids from her Instagram page in June this year.
For those who don’t know, after dating for a while, Jayam and Aarti took the wedding vows on June 4, 2009, in the presence of friends and family. The former couple now has two boys from their marriage: Aarav and Ayan.
