In December 1999, Combs found himself in hot water after a shooting at a New York club. Lopez, who was with Combs, was also arrested, but later released without charges. Three people were shot, leading to some ammunition charges being filed against Combs, although he ultimately walked free.
According to reports from various outlets, police chased the rapper-singer duo in New York City and found a stolen gun in their car before arresting them. Prosecutors alleged that Diddy attempted to force his driver to tell police that the gun was his in exchange for US$50,000.
Although charges against Combs and Lopez were dropped, Barrow and Jones, who were at the scene, received additional counts. He was sentenced to ten years in prison, although acquitted of attempted murder.
