A 26-year-old Indian tourist died after suddenly collapsing in a Phuket cafe on Kamala Beach. Mysteriously, three other people also fainted one by one ‘without any apparent reason’ in the same cafe. The incident took place on May 9 and now the Indian Embassy has confirmed the death. The embassy said, “Embassy officials are in touch with the family of the deceased to extend all possible support in this hour of grief. We are in touch with the relevant Thai authorities who are monitoring the incident, and also the health condition of the others involved.”According to the Bangkok Post, the five Indians, identified as Kushagra Agarwal, Rahul Agarwal, another man with the same name as Rahul Agarwal, Aman Agarwal and Aryan Verma, arrived at the cafe together around 11 pm. At around 1.54 am, four members of the group reportedly fainted one by one without any apparent reason. Café staff immediately called emergency services and people were taken to hospital. Aryan Verma did not show any symptoms.Patong Hospital later reported that two people were in coma and were transferred to Wachira Phuket Hospital for further treatment. He was one of two persons named Kushagra Agarwal and Rahul Agarwal. At around 2 pm on Saturday afternoon, the police received information that Kushagra Aggarwal had died. The condition of the remaining three patients is said to be stable.Police visited both the hospitals and found that all four people were unconscious and unable to give statements.Thaiger said some locals speculated that illegal substances or illegal alcohol may have been involved, but investigators have not released any findings or official findings.
