Since the initial announcement in 2022, news about Suriya and Vetrimaaran’s village action drama Vaadivasal has been uncomfortably quiet for fans of the duo. Apart from a mini-teaser released some time ago, there is little to celebrate about Vaadivasal.
However, there is a good news for fans across the country. During a recent interview, director Vetrimaaran gave an interesting update about Vaadivasal.
Why does Vetrimaaran want to avoid shooting this scene in Vaadivasal?
Talking about the film, the veteran director revealed that there is a very expensive sequence in the film, which might take 50-60 days to shoot. He then wondered if he would shoot the sequence or avoid it altogether.
Vetrimaaran, who has always been associated with low-budget thriller dramas, has recently made his films on a larger scale, including Asuran, Viduthalai Part 1, Viduthalai Part 2 and now Vaadivasal. However, as Vetrimaaran said in the interview, “A few years ago, I was not like this. If it was up to me, I would shoot it and then decide if I wanted it or not. So, I had the freedom and liberty to shoot whatever I wanted to shoot. My plots were not expensive and I was not under pressure to finish on time.”
Vetrimaaran recalls the incident with Dhanush during Aadukalam
Giving an example, the director recalled that while shooting for Aadukalam with Dhanush, the interval tournament sequence was 72 minutes long. “I told Dhanush that this sequence alone could be sent to film festivals. Then we cut it down to 29 minutes,” the director said.
As they say, with great power comes great responsibility and Vetrimaaran is certainly facing it this time around with his future projects. On one hand, there is Viduthalai Part 2 with Soori and Vijay Sethupathi and on the other, there is Vaadivasal with Suriya.
