Well done: Masaba Gupta rejoices as father Viv Richards is named Commonwealth ambassador
Masaba Gupta shared a video of her father, legendary cricketer Vivian Richards, after his appointment as the Commonwealth Ambassador. He expressed immense pride, emphasizing how “cool” he looked in his new role.
Designer Masaba Gupta can’t hide her pride when discussing her father, iconic West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards. The famous Antiguan player, widely known as Viv Richards, has been named the envoy for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting (CHOGM).
Masaba shared a video of Vivian on his Instagram handle, reflecting on his time in cricket and his role with the Commonwealth. “Why are my parents so bad? Why are they so cool?! I can’t get along. But I think my daughter would do the same,” she wrote, referring to her mother, actress Neena Gupta, and her daughter Matara.
Agreeing with Masaba, actress Urmila Matondkar commented with heart and raised hands emojis. “I guess peace runs in the family, Masuu!!! And you’re a part of it too,” one fan commented. Another fan wrote, “I had a very tough childhood. One of the few happy memories from then was meeting him. Never forgot his kindness. (Being able to meet him made me know anything is possible) (sic).”
The Commonwealth posted the video with a caption that read, “Amazed by who we bumped into on the road. Sir Vivian Richards, envoy to the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, explains what keeps the Commonwealth going.” This comes after he was appointed as the official envoy for the 2026 CHOGM to be held in Antigua and Barbuda from 1 to 4 November this year.
Masaba was born in 1989 to actor Neena and cricketer Viv. Neena raised Masaba as a single mother, as Viv was already married to Miriam and had two children. In December 2025, Masaba had talked about being influenced by her father in Sania Mirza’s talk show – serve it with sanya And said, “I think I really enjoyed seeing how independent he was, how fit he was, how mentally fit he was, and I said I want to be some version of that.”
Meanwhile, Masaba got married to Satyadeep Mishra in 2023, and the couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Matara, in October 2024.
