Weekly Survey: Will you buy the Motorola Signature?

Motorola has been quite inconsistent with flagship releases – its Edge series had an Ultra model in some years but not in others. It now offers a Signature line to serve the premium market and the first model is quite an interesting one.

The Motorola Signature isn’t quite a flagship, but it costs significantly less than them – you can pick up a 12/512GB unit for £900/€1,000 in Europe. Something like the Vivo X300 Pro will set you back €400 more, even as the OnePlus 15 costs €1,000.

The Signature is a fairly thin and light device, measuring 7.0 mm and weighing 186 grams. While many people don’t care about thinner phones, the lightweight design is nice – it’s 47 grams lighter than the iPhone 17 Pro Max while it has a larger 5,200mAh battery. Plus, it’s paired with fast 90W wired and 50W wireless charging, which is more than what Apple, Google, and Samsung have to offer this year.

The phone is equipped with a 6.8″ LTPO display (165Hz, 1264p+) with an ultrasonic fingerprint reader underneath. It has a speedy USB-C 3.1 Gen2 port along with DisplayPort 1.4 to boot, so it can connect to external displays too.

There are two areas where the Signature doesn’t match top flagships – the chipset and the camera. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (non-Elite), which is a step down from last year’s Elite, nothing can be said about the Elite Gen 5. However, it is not a slow chip by any means.

As far as the camera is concerned, the phone has four 50MP modules. The main camera has a large 1/1.28” sensor (Sony LYT-828), a 3x/71mm telephoto with a decent-sized 1/1.95” sensor and also a 122° ultra-wide camera. The fourth module is a 21mm selfie camera with autofocus f/2.0 lens. Not ultra-grade cameras, but these are larger sensors than the OnePlus 15.

Motorola’s Hello UI is quite nice and Smart Connect (formerly Ready For) offers a desktop mode. The phone is ready for 7 years of OS updates.
