We work with the Lenovo Legion Tab gaming tablet and the tough ThinkTab X11

Motorola focused on the phone side of the business – in case you missed it, here’s our hands-on with the Moto Razr Fold – while Lenovo came out with new tablets and laptops. We went hands-on with a number of new devices at MWC and here we’ll be covering the Legion Tab gaming tablet and the robust ThinkTab X11.

There are only a few powerful sub-9” tablets – Apple has its iPad Mini whenever it remembers to upgrade it, while Android maker slates prefer tablets 10” and above.

The Lenovo Legion Tab features an IPS LCD panel with an 8.8″ display, 3,040 x 1,904px resolution (16:10). It runs at 165Hz and offers 600 nits of typical brightness with a 750Hz boost.

The tablet measures 206.5 x 128.5 x 7.59 mm and weighs 360 grams. It comes with a 9,000mAh battery inside. The nice thing about the Legion Tab is that it has two USB-C ports – you can use one for charging and the other for outputting to peripherals or a monitor.

The tab is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 – it’s not the Elite version, but Lenovo is betting that its ColdFront vapor chamber cooling system will enable better sustained performance. The upgraded ColdFront chamber improves heat dissipation efficiency by 32% compared to the previous generation Lenovo Tab.

The chipset is paired with fast LPDDR5T RAM running at 10,667Mbps and top shelf storage, UFS 4.1 Pro. The Legion Tab can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.

Lenovo AI Engine+ offers useful features like noise cancellation for voice chat, boosting some in-game sounds to help you, and scene-based touch sensitivity adjustments.

Most of the Legion family is only available in China. However, Lenovo is bucking the trend with the Legion Tab – it will be available in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) this April. The starting price is €1,000.

The tablet comes in Eclipse Black, Glacier White and Surge Green (the last one is only on the FIFA Edition).

It’s designed for workers in logistics, manufacturing, construction, transportation and energy – but consumers may also find it useful. It’s definitely an interesting device.

The Lenovo ThinkTab X11 has a removable battery, which is quite rare. You don’t even need to open any screws to take it out. It promises extended use with quick battery swaps, but it also has another advantage.

This enables “battery-free mode”, which powers the tablet from the wall or in a dock inside the vehicle. This way you can run the tablet 24/7 without worrying about the lithium-ion battery draining out – even with the latest improvements in chemistry, all lithium batteries have a limited number of charge cycles.

Like its cousin above, the ThinkTab X11 has two USB-C ports. This allows the tablet to be simultaneously charged and connected to peripherals. Lenovo also has a USB-C to pogo pin converter, which allows the tablet to be used with a dock – pulling it out and inserting it into the dock is much faster than fiddling with a USB-C cable. And it’s more efficient than wireless charging.

The X11 is built tough – it has passed MIL-STD-810H testing and is given an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The touchscreen can operate with gloves and wet hands. Alternatively, you can use the built-in stylus to operate the screen (the stylus slots into the upper left corner).

The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass (we’re not sure which version). It is a 10.95″ LCD with 2,560 x 1,600px resolution (16:10). It reaches 600 nits in high brightness mode.

The tablet is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.2 storage. For such a durable device, the software situation is disappointing – it runs Android 16 out of the box and OS updates will drop it to Android 18 (ie it’s only getting 2 OS updates). At least Lenovo has committed to 4 years of security patches.

We’ve already mentioned the dual USB-C ports, we should also note that the battery capacity is 10,200mAh. And then, you can swap the battery or operate the tablet without it to extend the run time.

Other connectivity features worth mentioning are Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. Oh, and there’s an NFC reader on the front – it makes it easy to scan items for the inventory system.

The X11 is on the chunky side and measures 9.93 mm thick and weighs 650 grams. There is only one color option available called “Eclipse Black”.

The Lenovo ThinkTab X11 will be available in the EMEA region from April at a price of €500.
