Watch: PM Modi given a grand welcome by the Indian community on his arrival in Moscow

Hundreds of people, including members of the Indian community active in Russia, lined up on both sides of the road on Monday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled from Moscow airport to his hotel.

Prime Minister Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Vnukovo-II International Airport. This is his first visit to the Russian capital since 2015. He was received by Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.

People from the Indian community gathered in large numbers to get a glimpse of Prime Minister Modi when the Prime Minister’s convoy passed through the Red Square.

Prime Minister Modi was given a grand welcome by the Indian community at the hotel. Prime Minister Modi last visited Russia in September 2019 for the 20th India-Russia bilateral summit held in Vladivostok, where he was the chief guest.

While people were dancing and waving Indian flags, Prime Minister Modi was also talking to some of the people present there while going inside the building.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will host a private dinner for Prime Minister Modi in the evening, during which the two leaders are expected to discuss various issues of regional and global importance of mutual interest.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi will interact with the Indian community in Russia, pay floral tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Kremlin and then visit the Rosatom Pavilion, an exhibition venue in Moscow.

These meetings will be preceded by restricted-level talks between Prime Minister Modi and President Putin, which will be followed by delegation-level talks.

In his statement before departure from New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi said, “I am looking forward to reviewing all aspects of bilateral cooperation with my friend President Vladimir Putin and sharing our views on various regional and global issues.”

He highlighted that the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia has progressed over the last 10 years, covering the areas of energy, security, trade, investment, health, education, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
