Spoiler changes: This article contains heavy spoilers about Deadpool and Wolverine.

Deadpool and Wolverine broke many Marvel records, and the viral dance sequence in the movie in which Deadpool does the NSYNC choreography broke the internet, but Ryan Reynolds’ bones were spared. He recently spoke openly about the scene in an interview and answered the most asked question – was he dancing himself? The answer is – no, it was Dancepool. Ryan had an incredible dance double for the Bye Bye Bye choreography.

Ryan Reynolds reveals his dance double for Deadpool and Wolverine

In the opening credits of Deadpool and Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds’ masked superhero performs an iconic choreography from NSYNC’s Bye Bye Bye music video. Reynolds thanked choreographer Nick Pauly for his role in that scene while attending a recent press conference. Pauly is credited as Dancepool in the film.

Ryan Reynolds, 47, pointed out that Paulie managed most of the best moves, and that included poking fun at himself, as Ashley & Co. reported, adding that thanks to Paulie, it seems fluid dancing is possible even without arthritis. “If it looks like a person dancing doesn’t have arthritis, it’s him,” he said.

The scene shows Deadpool desecrating Wolverine’s grave following the X-Men character’s death in Logan (2017). In the scene, Deadpool dances over the members of the Time Variance Authority after they are defeated, holding Wolverine’s adamantium bones and singing Bye Bye Bye. Dancepool’s director, Nick Pauly, has worked on previous projects such as The Prom and music videos for Katy Perry and Doja Cat.

Pauly expressed his excitement to perform as Dancepool in an Instagram post. He wrote, “It’s true! I am Dancepool in the new Deadpool and Wolverine. This has been so hard to keep a secret! I can’t believe I had the honor of being @vancityreynolds’s “dance” double for the entire movie’s opening scene!!! Like what?!? What is life?”

According to Reynolds, all the challenging dance moves were performed by Pauly alone. He acknowledged his limitations and expressed gratitude for Pauly’s presence in the cast. He said, “There are certain moments where, you know, there’s a bit of a pop and a lock. The pop is really pop, like it breaks. And the lock doesn’t open. I will trust in Nick Pauly’s talent. I will trust in his talent and thank him for his contribution and service.”

Pauly celebrated his role on social media, saying how thrilled he was to be Reynolds’ double in the film’s opening scenes. He also posted a video of himself quickly learning *NSYNC’s choreography for the audition and thanked both Reynolds and director Shawn Levy for inspiring him to do it.

Walt Disney Studios released the franchise’s first film, Deadpool and Wolverine, after acquiring it from 21st Century Fox, marking its entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to reports, it has become the highest-grossing R-rated release of all time domestically. Deadpool, or as he calls himself “Marvel Jesus,” is now in theaters worldwide with his Wolverine bestie.
