Agnihotri shared an emotional message on Instagram and wrote, “A year has passed. But some days do not move forward. They remain where they were broken. I keep thinking about those we lost in Pahalgam.”
Remembering those who lost their lives, they told stories that continue to haunt them and underline the devastating impact of the tragedy.
The filmmaker wrote about lives lost, recounting the story of a young naval officer who went on a honeymoon just six days after his marriage, which was supposed to symbolize the beginning of a new life. He also mentioned a man who came with faith in his heart, unaware that hatred does not ask for someone’s identity before taking their life, and a young man from Kanpur who left home for a few days but never returned, highlighting how dreams were shattered in an instant.
The filmmaker also reflected on the unexpected brutality of such violence. “Different homes. Different dreams. One violence,” he said, describing how people from different walks of life were united by a tragic fate.
Highlighting the scale of the loss, Agnihotri wrote, “26 people lost their lives. 26 widows. 26 families shattered.” He further said that the damage is much deeper. He wrote, “Millions of hopes were destroyed, a nation was wounded and humanity itself was questioned.”
He wrote, “Terrorism doesn’t just kill people. It interrupts life. It leaves behind unfinished conversations, unfinished years, and families who must learn to live in silence.”
He said the day is not just about remembrance, but also about a sober and unwavering resolve that no ideology, cause or belief can ever justify taking the lives of innocent people.
The filmmaker ended his message with a strong statement against justifying violence in any form, saying, “We are indebted to their memory. We are indebted to their honor. We owe them a world that refuses to normalize it.”
