Villages have been washed away: Singer Papon urges support for Assam flood victims
Singer Papon has appealed for immediate help for the flood affected people of Assam, saying that entire villages have been washed away. His call has come when more than 5.24 lakh people are still affected in the state and the loss is increasing.
Singer Papon has urged people across India and the world to support those affected by the floods in Assam, saying the devastation this year is worse than what usually happens in the state. In a video shared on Instagram, he said entire villages have been washed away, many people are still homeless, hundreds of people are missing, many people have lost their lives and many animals have died.

His appeal comes as Assam is facing a serious flood crisis. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, more than 5.24 lakh people have been affected in five districts, while the death toll in floods this year in the state has reached 68 with two more deaths in the last 24 hours.
Sharing the video, he wrote, “To my friends, colleagues and everyone for whom this matters. Please help if you can.”
In the video, Papon said that Assam receives heavy rains every year and faces floods, but he said that it is difficult to imagine the situation this time. “Villages after villages have been washed away,” he said and described the situation as extremely serious. He also said that people are still without homes and many animals have died in the floods.

Appealing for immediate help, Papon asked people to spread the word and turn their attention towards Assam. He said that this is a matter of humanity and everyone should come together and do what they can as quickly as possible. He said that people and various organizations in Assam are already doing their work on the ground, including his own groups, and asked anyone who wants to help to come forward.
ASDMA said 5,24,700 people have been affected in Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon and Sivasagar districts. Charaideo remains the most affected district with around 1.9 lakh people, followed by Sivasagar with over 1.5 lakh people and Jorhat with around 1.4 lakh people affected. The administration is running 354 relief camps and aid distribution centers in four districts, where 37,724 displaced people are being looked after.
The official bulletin said 763 villages were submerged in water across the state and 48,742.09 hectares of crop area was damaged. Embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have also been damaged in many districts. Dhansiri river in Numaligarh is flowing above the danger level, while 88,240 domestic animals and poultry have also been affected.
Other public figures have also spoken out about the crisis. Actress Bhumi Pednekar recently urged people to use social media to support relief efforts in Assam and raise awareness of the situation, while the India Disaster Relief Foundation thanked her for helping raise awareness about its Assam flood relief mission. Singer Neelotpal Bora also acknowledged the support given by celebrities and urged them to promote NGOs working on the ground.
Papon’s video adds to growing calls for help from Assam, where the flood situation may be improving in some areas, but millions of people are being affected, villages and crops are being damaged, and many are in need of relief and assistance.
