Vijay Sethupathi diverts questions on failure of Kanguva, Bakri
During the promotion of Viduthalai Part 2, Vijay Sethupathi discussed the performance of Tamil films in Telugu states. When asked about the failure of Kanguva and GOAT, he also tried to deflect the question.

Actor Vijay Sethupathi, while promoting his upcoming film Viduthalai Part 2 in Hyderabad, shared his views on the box-office performance of Thalapathy Vijay’s film GOAT and Suriya-starrer Kanguva in the Telugu-speaking states.
In an interview with The Great Andhra, Sethupathi was asked about the recent failures of Tamil pan-India films, especially at the Telugu box office. However, he responded with some reluctance, saying, “When I come to promote my film, why should I talk about all this? Why should we talk about this?”
He then narrowed his focus and presented his point of view and said, “No matter what language it is or what kind of film it is, if the film is good, people will watch it. It is not just in Tamil, it is everywhere. Be it a hit or a flop, people make films with the hope that they will be successful. Even now, before releasing a film, we show it to people. Every film, even my flops, is shown to the audience before release to know the general opinion.
Sethupathi was asked about his decision to choose Viduthalai Part 2 because of its focus on issues like casteism and Naxalism, which were more prominent in the 70s and 80s. Critics questioned the relevance of addressing these past issues rather than contemporary problems.
Responding to this, Sethupathi said, “It is not about highlighting burning topics; It’s about telling the stories of people and their lives. The film is not made to earn praise or earn a good name. I am proud to work on this project. Although this story is set in the ’70s, if it still resonates with you, it’s a reflection of the fact that these issues still persist today.
