Chengalpet Family Court has ordered Vijay and Sangeeta to appear before them on June 15 in their ongoing divorce case. The proceedings are a result of a petition filed by Sangeeta in February, in which she alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital affair. The petition was listed for April 20. During the hearing, Judge Sasikala heard the case and adjourned it till mid-June.

According to the divorce petition filed in February, Sangeeta claimed that Vijay was having an adulterous affair with a female actor, a fact she came to know in 2021. Despite Vijay’s assurance of ending the relationship, the petition alleges that she continued the relationship without any remorse.

The document further states that Vijay kept Sangeeta out of his social and professional circle, while he continued to travel abroad and attend public events with the female actor.

The petition also highlighted that the actor often shared pictures of these outings on social media, which Vijay neither denied nor objected to. Sangeeta argued that these posts had caused her and her two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha, to be repeatedly humiliated. Additionally, the petition accused Vijay of imposing financial restrictions, including withdrawing facilities already available to Sangeeta and limiting her free movement.

Sangeeta further alleged that Vijay’s ongoing conduct and controversies on social media in 2024 caused her severe mental trauma, claiming that their marriage has effectively broken down and exists only on paper. She mentioned that this relationship is beyond reconciliation, giving her nothing but mental pain, humiliation, insult and suffering. These claims form the basis of her grounds for divorce under sections 27(1)(a) and 27(1)(d) of the Special Marriage Act.

Sangeeta filed for divorce, seeking to end her 27-year marriage with Vijay.

Currently, Vijay is busy campaigning as Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections to be held on April 23. He is also waiting for the release of Jan Nayakan, which is stuck in the censor board’s tussle since January.
