Sri Lankan Parliament member Namal Rajapaksa said that Tamil superstar Vijay is his favorite actor, jokingly adding that he hoped the answer would be “not controversial”. Rajapaksa was speaking at the India Today Conclave 2026 in New Delhi when he made the statement. He also said that Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Sachin Tendulkar are his favorite cricketers.

Rajapaksa’s statement about Vijay came after the host of the session, Rajdeep Sardesai, said that he had said that Vijay was his favorite actor. The politician, who represents the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in the Parliament of Sri Lanka, said he has followed Vijay’s cinematic career over the years and acknowledged the star’s popularity. “Actually my father and I are planning to watch his film,” he said.

Incidentally, Vijay’s next release is Jan Naygan. The film was scheduled to go on floors in January as the Tamil actor’s last release before quitting acting to pursue a career in politics, but has been stuck due to censorship issues.

During the session, Rajapaksa also said that his favorite Indian cricketers are Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Sachin Tendulkar, adding in a humorous tone: “I hope my answer will not be controversial like Vijay is my favorite actor!”
