Veteran Malayalam actor and director Srinivasan passes away at 69 after a long battle with illness

Malayalam film industry has suffered huge losses today. Famous actor, screenwriter, director and producer Sreenivasan has passed away tragically. According to a report in Mathrubhumi, the 69-year-old senior star was battling a prolonged illness when he breathed his last at a hospital in Thripunithura. Read on for more details.

Actor Srinivasan passes away

Today, on December 20, 2025, veteran Malayalam cinema actor Srinivasan said goodbye to his friends and family forever. The star, who worked in over 225 films and wrote some of the best stories, passed away, leaving behind an unmatched legacy. After being affected by the disease, he was undergoing treatment for a long time at his home in Udayamperur. But sadly, when his health deteriorated, he was taken to a hospital in Thripunithura, where he died on Saturday morning.

Born in Pattiyam near Thalassery, Srinivasan made his film debut in the 1976 film Manimuzhakkam. A few years later, he got his first role as the lead in the 1979 entertainer, Sanghaganam. Known for classics such as Vadakkunokkiyantram and Chintavishtayya Shyamala, Sreenivasan shaped the future of Malayalam cinema and produced many influential stories.

Apart from being a celebrated actor and screenwriter, he was also an incredibly talented director, producer and dubbing artist. The National Award winner is survived by his wife, Vimala, and his sons, Vineeth Srinivasan and Dhyan Srinivasan. For those unaware, both his sons are well-known actors. His demise is a big loss not only for his fans and family but also for the industry.
