Playback singer Chinmai Sripada has received at the end of trolling and hatred after accusing Vairamuthu, the famous lyricist and poet of sexual misconduct in 2018 in 2018 during the #MeToo movement. Years later, veteran musician, director and lyricist Gangai Amaran, brother of Ilaiyaraja, raised his support and called his long -time friend Vairamuthu a ‘not such a good person’.
In an interview with GalattaGangai Amaran said, “When I heard about the incident he held for him, I wanted to participate immediately.” Over the years, Chinmai has spoken several times and has called celebrities and politicians who have about 17 complaints against women to platform Veramuthu, who have about 17 complaints from women – some anonymous.
He then addressed his sexual harassment claims against Vairamuthu and expressed his support. He said, “She struggled in life to become a playback singer that she is today. But, she (Vairamuthu) became a good person, while everyone made him a villain (to open). Nobody supported him during this time,” he said.
Gangai Amarran also emphasized that it is important to stand by a woman who exposes injustice. “If a woman talks about the injustice done to her, we should stand with her. I condemn those who do not and support political parties,” he said.
For Anward, Gangai Amaran, Ilaiyaraja and Vairamuthu have been friends for years and have worked on many prestigious projects in Tamil cinema. Amaran also talked about his relationship with Vairamuthu and said, “Just because we are friends, it does not mean that we cannot question that he does nothing wrong. Can I ask Chinmei not to talk about him because he is my friend?”
He then said, “He is a good poet, there is no doubt, but he is not a good person.”
In 2018, Chinmai Shripada named Lirikist Vairamuthu – which is a legend with great political relations in the Tamil industry – as his criminal. He said that the lyricist asked him to ‘cooperate’ in 2005. He level these allegations as he led the #MeToo movement of Tamil cinema.
Vairamuthu denied the allegations, but Chinmai is facing a ban in the Tamil film industry.
