The Karthi-starrer Va Vaathiyar was initially scheduled to release on December 12, 2025. However, the action-comedy flick was later delayed indefinitely due to the producer’s pending financial liabilities with investors. Now, it appears that the film is finally seeing the light of day for Pongal, as the makers have announced a new release date of January 14, 2026.
Va Vaathiyar Release Date
Va Vaathiyar is officially set to release on January 14, 2026, coinciding with Pongal this year. This announcement was shared by the makers through their social media handles.
Sharing the update, the makers wrote, “Vaathiyar Varrar. Vaathiyar – All set for a grand release on 14th January.” According to reports, judicial authorities have given permission to auction the rights of the film to cover the producer’s existing debt, due to which the film will be released this month.

Va Vaathiyar is an action-comedy film starring Karthi in the lead role. Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, the film tells the story of DSP Rameswaran, a corrupt police officer who lives a life contrary to his grandfather’s wishes by adopting the honesty and values of late MGR.
As a horrific crime unfolds in his life, Rameswaran’s journey takes an unexpected turn when he adopts an alter ego inspired by MGR to fight corruption and injustice. The film explores what happens when he fights crime using this unconventional identity.

After Va Vaathiyar, Karthi will be seen in the lead role in Sardaar 2. Directed by PS Mithran, the film is a sequel to the 2022 action thriller and stars SJ Suryah and Malavika Mohanan in the co-lead roles.
