Tom Kean Jr., 57, representative of the 7th Congressional District of New Jersey, was last seen on March 5. He has since missed about 100 House votes, was not present at any official or personal event and was not even photographed. But he’s not missing out as he’s still trading stocks, giving some interviews and making some calls to his Republican colleagues who are worried that the party could lose the seat in the midterms due to Keane Jr.’s prolonged absence.
Where is Tom Keane Jr.?? He says he is suffering from health issues
Tom Keane Jr. gave an interview to the New Jersey Globe and said that he had been dealing with a health problem and that his doctors were confident that he would make a full recovery. He said he hoped to return to voting and campaigning in a few weeks. He then also began calling his fellow Republicans in New Jersey to reassure them that his re-election campaign was moving forward. But mysteriously, none of the people he called had any idea where Gene Jr. was. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said, “I don’t even know the details, and I respect that. It’s members’ personal privacy whatever matters they’re dealing with.” He last spoke to Keane by phone a few weeks ago.Keane did not reveal what he is suffering from, but said he is not expected to suffer long-term effects or chronic health complications and that his medical problem will not affect his cognitive health. Keane’s wife also declined to comment on her husband’s illness and mysterious disappearance. Neighbors said the house had been dark and deserted for several weeks. He did not see his wife, his car or his dog.Keane is unopposed in the June 2 primary, while Rebecca Bennett, Michael Roth, Tina Shah and Brian Varela are running for the Dem primary.“He seemed fine to me. Seemed normal as usual,” said Carlos Santos, the Republican chairman of Union County, where Keane lives. Santos said that he did not ask Keane about his illness and that Keane did not disclose it. But he said Keane had confirmed he was running for re-election and he had their support.Records showed that despite his lengthy absence, Keane signed five stock trades between April 14 and May 17.
