Norway’s former environment minister Erik Solheim told IANS on Saturday that the indictment of Adani Group executives by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) is nothing but “complete American overreach”, and that the group will be stronger after it ends. Will come back after.

According to the veteran diplomat, if the US has some complaints about the Adani Group, it should first go to the Indian government, bring it to their notice and then make it a part of the Indian judicial system, not a US court.

He stressed that such redundancies are also harmful as the Adani Group is an important vehicle for India’s green transition.

“They have huge plans to set up solar and wind facilities and have large green investments in several Indian states and abroad. The group has also announced to invest $10 billion in the US for energy security initiatives. Such prosecutions All of them will be harmed.” Solheim told IANS.

Adani Group has committed to invest $10 billion in US energy security and infrastructure projects, with the aim of creating 15,000 local jobs in the country.

Solheim further said that the US should stop such an official approach and pay attention to the consequences of such meaningless actions, adding, “I am sure the Adani Group will come back even stronger after this”.

Solheim, who serves as executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme, said the time is over when Western countries like the United States were the arbiters and judges of the world.

He said, “This is a thing of the past. This must stop.”

Meanwhile, US Attorney Braun Peace, who filed charges against Adani Group executives, has reportedly announced his decision to step down on January 10 – just in time for Donald Trump’s inauguration as the next US President on January 20. The day is far away.

In November, the DoJ indicted Adani Group executives on charges ranging from securities fraud to wire fraud.

The group dismissed the allegations as “malicious, mischievous and manipulative selection of publicly available information” to reach “premeditated conclusions for personal profiteering with disregard for facts and law”.
