The White House has said that the Biden administration looks forward to expanding its “vital and vitally important” partnership with India and building a more prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made the remarks on Monday while responding to questions on US President Joe Biden’s priorities in the remaining six months of his administration.
“We look forward to furthering our vital and extremely important partnership and seeing how it will benefit the American people,” he said while addressing his daily press conference.
He said, “We want to make the Indo-Pacific region and the world more prosperous and secure. This will remain our focus as we move forward.”
“The President (Joe Biden) considers our relationship – the US relationship with India – one of the most important relationships in the world. We work very closely with India on our most important priorities, including the Quad and the US-India initiative – critical and emerging technologies,” Jean-Pierre said.
Earlier in the day, India’s Ambassador-designate to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra arrived in the US capital.
Kwatra, who previously served as Commerce Minister at the Indian Embassy here, is expected to present his credentials to President Biden soon.
The top Indian diplomat, who is well known in US diplomatic circles, is arriving in the midst of a hectic US presidential election campaign, fast-changing developments in Bangladesh and two ongoing wars with the US.
Some high-level diplomatic talks are expected to take place between India and the US in the next 90 days, including visits by cabinet-level officials from both sides.
The overall relationship between India and the US has improved significantly following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic state visit to Washington in June last year and subsequent visit of Biden to India for the G-20 summit last September.
