A British TikTok influencer has been charged in Dubai with murder after stabbing a British man whom she had flown to the UAE to meet.Brooke George, a 23-year-old woman from Gravesend, Kent, has denied deliberately killing her partner and said she acted in self-defense during the alleged violent attack, the BBC reports.George was arrested on the morning of June 22 and is in custody in Dubai. Under UAE law, a conviction for premeditated murder can result in the death penalty.According to advocacy organization Detained in Dubai, cited by the BBC, George and the 26-year-old met online before starting a relationship. The group claims the relationship turned abusive during their second trip to Dubai.Radha Stirling, chief executive of Detained in Dubai, said George alleged that his partner became controlling, took away his passport and physically assaulted him. The organization said George told investigators he feared for his life and used a kitchen knife to protect himself during the incident.The man detained in Dubai has urged UAE authorities to release George on bail and investigate the matter in the context of alleged domestic violence. The organization also said he should receive legal representation, medical care and full British consular assistance while the investigation continues.George has also alleged that while in custody, she was forced to remove her clothes in front of male police officers without the presence of any female officer. The woman detained in Dubai described this allegation as extremely sad and said that it has increased concerns about her treatment.Her mother Thereza George said she noticed a remarkable change in her daughter’s behavior during her second visit to Dubai. He said that Brooke had seemed unusually quiet and scared in the hours before the incident, and he later approached him in a state of panic with bruises on his face.“She was absolutely terrified,” her mother said, adding that she believed her daughter was trying to return to Britain before the incident occurred.Sterling said family members and friends became concerned that George had been lured to Dubai under false pretenses, citing changes in his partner’s behavior and repeated expressions of fear by George.Britain’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed it is assisting a British woman detained in the United Arab Emirates.An FCDO spokesperson said, “We are in contact with a British woman detained in the UAE, we are supporting her family and we are in contact with local authorities.”The case continues to be investigated by authorities in Dubai. George has been charged, but no verdict has been reached, and the charges against him and his detention in Dubai have not been tested in court.
