Less than a week before the first dawn of 2025, India has started work on shaping its foreign policy in the new year. According to a report in The Economic Times, Prime Minister Modi may also visit America to meet the incoming US President.

India is also set to host an annual summit with Russia for which President Vladimir Putin may visit New Delhi. If this happens, it will be Mr Putin’s first visit to India since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Several high-profile meetings are also expected to take place during the BRICS summit in Brazil in July and the SCO summit in China in August-September. All eyes will be on possible talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Russian and Chinese counterparts during both the summits. PM Modi can go to China for SEO summit.

A possible meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping is especially expected during the summit, as the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh looks to be normalising.

India’s diplomatic calendar for 2025 is likely to begin with the visit of Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to Singapore in mid-January, the ET report said.

This will be followed by the visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto Jojohadikusumo, who is the chief guest of the 2025 Republic Day celebrations. Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font may also visit India in March or April, the ET report said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also reportedly planning to visit France at the end of February. He may also reportedly travel to Japan for the annual summit.

In late 2025, the G20 summit is scheduled to be held in South Africa and the ASEAN summit in Malaysia. Prime Minister Modi may visit the respective countries to attend block meetings.
