Sonam Khan, actor who became a domestic name as ‘Oi Oi’ girl from ‘Tridev’, turned 53 today. The actor, who moved away from stardom at just 17 years of age, now looks back with a new sense of gratitude and purpose as he returns to films and OTT.

Sonam told India Today in a special conversation today, “I celebrated my birthday with my dear friends Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla last night. We were together till about 3 pm. Asked if Sonam had to express his birthday wish this year – personally or professional – he said, “If I had to do a wish today, it would be that I should not have left my career or should be left out. But today I am ready to come back, because I was never left to work. I was not doing anything. I am still working at the age of 13 years. I am still working at the age of 13 years. I feel

Speaking about what kind of role will take her back to the camera, she said, “I would like to play a negative role. See, I am 53 years old, and I want to play my age characters. I praise actors like Neena Gupta ji. She is very busy, so I do not believe in taking some of her roles. I would like to do strong roles.”

Sonam, which is open to both films and digital platforms, said that OTT made her the most excited. “I would like to find out both films and OTT, but OTT makes me very excited. I am not an illusion – I don’t need to be the hero of the series. But I want a character without which the story cannot move forward. My character must be important for the script.”

Actor, who signed 38 films within just six months of being launched by Yash Chopra, admitted that he could be successful. “Bollywood has been very kind for me. Just in just three and a half years, I was able to support my parents and sign 38 films within six months of being launched by Yash Chopra ji. The work came to me very easily – perhaps, I do not give it sufficient importance.

On the developed landscape of cinema, Sonam said, “The new wave of cinema is very good, very different from the 80s, but I think the budget factor is very high.

He cited the Malayalam film ‘Ulozuku’, who won the National Award as an example. “There is no big budget in that film, and yet it is very beautiful. It has Parvati, who is a great actress. So the budget script, acting, performance, camera work, director and the entire team. The budget should be focused on making a film.”

Recalling her journey, she today reflects the difference in the way of films. “My journey from ‘Oye Oi’ girl has been a transparency. In our time, things were more comfortable-our passes were not a workshop, dialogues were often handed over on the set, scenes were changed to the final minute. Most of us were not actually trained to become an actor. Today’s children are very well prepared, sometimes more prejuded.”

His fond memories have a song sequence from ‘Tridev’. “When people still remember me as a ‘Oi Oi’ girl, I always thank her with gratitude. A memory that stands out, she is shooting for ‘Gajar Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai Hai.

Sonam also reminded about working with some of the most respected names of her time. “The co-actor who challenged me the most, she was Naseeruddin Shah. I have done three films with her. Contrary to rumors that she is very difficult, I found her humble and kind. I would like to re-join Govinda, Jackie Shroff or Naseer Saab again.

“They were all so kind, all actors of that era, whether Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff, Sanjay Dutt, Chunky Pandey, Govinda, Rishi Kapoor, they were all very kind to work with a newcomer like Mere.
