Trending Now: Zomato, Swiggy face strong backlash after raising platform fee to Rs 10

Food delivery apps like Swiggy and Zomato have become an essential part of our lives. However, it seems that foodies are not too happy with the recent change introduced by both the platforms. According to reports, Zomato and Swiggy have increased the platform fee to ₹10 amid the festive rush. But this decision was not liked by the customers. On microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), the revised platform fees sparked widespread outrage. Many users expressed their frustration over how food delivery fees are continuously increasing. He said that due to rising costs, it is becoming difficult for customers to continue ordering as it has become very expensive.

One user wrote, “Swiggy has also increased the platform fee to ₹10. This happened right after Zomato’s rise. Food ordering started with free delivery, now GST, delivery & packing charges, platform charges. Zomato and Swiggy handle 3.5 million orders per day.

Another person said, “Zomato increased platform fees! Pay the inflated price of food to use the platform. Pay the platform fee to use the platform. Restaurants pay a fee to use the platform. And finally, pay for your health by eating out. What’s your idea Sirji?”

One post read, “Dear Zomato, we all are struggling, but please take note of what the festive season platform charges are.”

“Just a day after Zomato increased platform fee to Rs 10, Swiggy also followed suit,” declared one user.

They both started with a fee of ₹2 and now jointly process over 3.5 million orders per day! Food delivery has evolved from free services to GST, delivery and packing charges and now platform charges.

An X user noted, “Both #Swiggy and #Zomato have started charging ₹10 platform fee. I was surprised to see a huge jump from ₹6 to ₹10 on Swiggy, which will definitely boost Zomato’s profits in the next quarter. However, after checking Zomato, I realized that this increase is temporary, likely to cash in on the festive season demand. “Nevertheless, these tech-driven, asset-light platforms continue to generate substantial profits.”
