A tourist who believed he had lost Dh3,000 forever during a shopping trip in Dubai got an unexpected surprise when Dubai Police traced the missing cash and transferred it to his bank account after returning home.
Tourist reports cash loss before departure
Arab tourist realized he had lost money while visiting a busy shopping center in Dubai. Due to her flight being scheduled shortly after, she reported the incident through Dubai Police’s Tourist Assistance Service, explaining that she did not have time to stay behind and look for the missing cash herself.
Police have promised to continue the search
Instead of closing the case due to her imminent departure, authorities assured the woman that efforts to trace the money would continue and that if recovered she would be deported to her home country.According to Director of Tourist Police Department, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Abdul Rahman, a field team from the Shopping Center Security Section was immediately tasked to investigate the matter and trace the movements of tourists inside the mall.
Full amount recovered within two hours
The search team located the entire Dh3,000 within two hours in a store in the shopping centre. The officials then verified the amount by matching the total amount and the number of bank notes with the details given in the tourist’s report.After completing the verification process, Dubai Police contacted the woman and arranged to transfer the money to her bank account in her home country.
Tourists praise quick response
The tourist said he had little hope of getting the cash back, especially after leaving the UAE and given the size and crowd level of the shopping centre.He praised Dubai Police for their prompt action and continued communication even after returning home, and described the experience as a reflection of the safety and integrity he experienced during his visit to Dubai.
Another addition to Dubai’s lost and found record
The incident is the latest in a series of cases involving the recovery of lost valuables in Dubai. Earlier this month, Dubai Police returned a lost bag containing luxury watches worth more than Dh100,000 along with electronic components to a GCC traveler after it was reported missing at Dubai International Airport.In a separate case in May, authorities recovered and returned a handbag containing silver bars worth about Dh2 million to an Asian passenger following a search operation at the airport.
