Tired of looking at guns, gore and blood on the big screen? Are you suffering from films characterized by hardcore action and violence and are looking for a breath? Have you ever thought of watching a no-time movie that reminds you of looking for goodness in people? If a film can bring a smile on your face later this week and give you some relief, it is the ‘tourist family’ of director Abation Jeevan.
With Dharmadas (Sasikumar), sometimes Mr. Gudi to-shoes, and his wife Vasanthi (Simran), his two children are Nituhan (Mithun Jai Shankar) and Muli (Kamlesh) with Sri Lankan natives, who hop on a boat to illegally enter India. They end in Dhanushkodi, only to be caught by the police. However, Muli’s innocence and sharp presence of Muli helps them escape.
For religions and their families, leaving Sri Lanka was a difficult decision yet desperate. As he struggles to find a job to end, a group of policemen are looking for Sri Lankan families who suspect them to plan and execute the bombings. Will neighbors know about the identity of religions and family? Will the police accuse them of being a terrorist? Will they be able to prove their innocence? The ‘Tourist Family’ answers these questions in two hours and 10 minutes.
Recall those days when director Radha Mohan’s films were shouted? In an era where films are about high-octane action, such films forget such films that we are living in a world full of books, hate. The world of ‘tourist family’ is all white and also pushes you to be one.

Dharmadas is a good person. Even though he has entered Tamil Nadu as a refugee in search of a new house, he makes a pitstop to help a person who everyone considers drunk. The spontaneous goodness you see in Dharmadara and his family members brings changes to their neighbors – because happiness is contagious. ‘Tourust Family’ is a saying. The film keeps repeating that not everyone in this world is worthy of suspicion. In today’s world, we are often made to believe that if anyone is doing good, they must have the opposite objectives.
But, the ‘tourist family’ tries to prove that people can be good, because they can be good, because they are. Just like Vasanti says that her husband is such a man. The film highlights a beautiful relationship between the parents of two and their romance is still alive. Even the father-son struggle is resolved through dialogue and ends on a comic note, thanks to the young Kamlesh.
He said, ‘tourist families’ is not without its flaws. Sometimes, the screenplay is highly convenient, which makes you know what you know on the screen. But, whenever it happens, the director Abisht packs it with a fun setup that makes you laugh loudly. The film taps into emotional beats and gives a glimpse of various characters living in the area, which adds depth to the story.
The best work that works in ‘Tourist Family’ is that it is its nature to make the most emotional moments fun with his humor. Sasikumar is more than perfect as religions and Simran, because Vasanthi brings happiness and sadness through its performance. The little tribute to Simran’s classic ‘Althotota Bhupathi’ added a good touch to the film. Mithun Jai Shankar performed a great performance as a person in his 20s, who really wants to help his struggling father.
But, it is child artist Kamlesh who steals the show with his great performance. He makes you laugh at your heart more than once, especially the ‘Mambatiyan’ sequence. The supporting roles of Ms. Bhaskar, Ramesh Thilak and others increased the mood of the film.
‘Tourist Family’ is a emotionally awarded film with great humor.
