Dhurandhar: The Revenge made Rs. The film earned around Rs 73-74 crore on its opening day in India on Thursday. This does not include the paid previews on Wednesday evening, which generated an additional Rs. Approximately Rs 39 crore nett. The total of both together is Rs. 112-113 crores net approx. Official reporting will push for the opening day, including previews, which is something that is done in South India. Traditionally, the Hindi film industry has reported them separately, but everyone likes bigger numbers. Not doing so also puts one at a disadvantage when compared to opening day across industries, as films from the South, mostly Telugu films, would be packed with these previews, or as in the past had benefit shows. Considering all this, it is likely that the Hindi film industry will start doing the same. Earlier, Hindi films had stopped having previews because, in a way, they were seen as taking away from the opening numbers, but if they have to be rolled out on the opening day, it is worth keeping them, especially for holiday eve releases.
Now, is this the proper way of reporting? Probably not, although one could make arguments for both sides. Having previews wastes time on the opening day. Had it not been for the previews, Dhurandhar might have made around Rs. Would have earned Rs. 90 crore nett, maybe Rs. 100 crore nett. Having said that, it doesn’t make money. 112 crore nett. The film had 11000 shows on Wednesday and around 21000 shows yesterday, i.e. total shows were around 32000. There won’t be 33,000 shows on a normal day; It is basically one and a half day as compared to one day for others.
We’ll probably have time to think about this in the future as more movies may opt for previews, making comparisons more fair. For now, make your own calls.
