As we enter 2026, here’s a look at how 2025 went for Bollywood films at the Indian box office. It was a good year so far for Hindi cinema, as all the big budget tentpole releases failed to impress the audience and turned out to be flops at the box office. However, a few surprises continued to drive the box office. Movies like Dhurandhar, Chhaava, Syayara and Mahavatar Narasimha were the real dark horses of 2025, which impressed the audience and turned out to be huge successes at the box office.
Ranveer Singh starrer espionage action drama Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has collected around Rs. 700 crores in 28 days of theatrical run in Hindi. The film is still performing well in theatres, and is expected to earn around Rs. 750-775 crores in Hindi, which will be an all time record. For those unaware, Dhurandhar has already become Bollywood’s highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing Stree 2.
Apart from Dhurandhar, it is Vicky Kaushal’s Chaaawa, which has collected around Rs. Total Rs 567 crore across all languages in India. 551 crore nett in Hindi alone. Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utekar, proved to be a landmark film in Vicky Kaushal’s career.
Sayyara paid Rs. Ranked third with earnings of more than Rs. It earned Rs 327 crore at the Indian box office in its entire run. The musical romantic drama, starring newcomers Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, became a nationwide sensation and a top priority for Gen-Z. Apart from musical romance, the animation genre also found an audience this year. Mahavatar Narasimha earned Rs. Rs 223 crore in all languages in India. 169 crores in India alone.
