Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s much awaited gangster drama, thug life, watching a disappointing run at the Indian box office, its conclusion is that it is earning Rs 46 crore in the first week. The film, which re-found the prestigious actor-director pair again after its creed classic naikon, was re-opened on June 5, 2025, but to mark it as one of Tamil cinema’s biggest dramatic disappointments, faced a lot of decline in collections to follow it.
The extended inauguration weekend (Thursday to Sunday) collected thugs life for Rs 40.75 crore, with Tamil Nadu contributed Rs 33 crore, while the rest of India added Rs 7.75 crore. Despite a promising start, the film struggled to maintain speed due to the reception of the negative audience, mainly due to a general story and a shortage screenplay. The absence of a release in Karnataka, due to the dispute around Kamal Haasan’s comments on the Kannada language, further limited its reach, although the effect is less than Rs 5 crore how the film is performing in the rest of India.
Thugs proved to be particularly challenging for life in the week of the week. On its first Monday (day 5), the collection reached an unbreakable rupee for Rs 2.25 crore, showing a decline of more than 85 percent from its early day and was more than 70 percent from last Friday. In comparison, Housefull 5, which was released a day after the thug life, overtook the Rs 100 crore in India within its first week and highlights the clear opposite in the audience’s reception. Kamal Haasan’s blockbuster, after Vikram, performs the performance of Thug Life is an important latedown. This is ready to score under Indian 2, the Indian 2, despite an disaster, domesticly finished earning 100 crores. An estimated India of less than Rs 60 crore and with an estimated gross worldwide below Rs 100 crore, the thug life is a dramatic dramatic disaster.
