Thug Life Trailer Review: Kamal Haasan, Naikan like Str in a gangster story 2.0

The trailer of Mani Ratnam, starring Kamal Haasan, presented a stylish glimpse in a familiar gangster world, but with the depth of the director’s signature storytelling and visual grandeur. The film also stars Trisha Krishnan.

The trailer of the upcoming high-octain Tamil film ‘Thug Life’ was released on 17 May. It offered a serious form in the world of Mani Ratnam’s power, betrayal and personal struggle. With only three weeks left until its dramatic release on 5 June, the trailer set a tone for a grand action drama, which makes Kamal Haasan and Silambarson TR (STR) in a serious clash of generations and ideologies against each other.

The trailer indicates a story where an orphan raised by a gangster eventually rises to challenge the man who shaped him. This is a setup which has been revealed in classics like ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Sarkar’. Even Kamal and Ratnam’s earlier cooperation, ‘Nayakan’ dealt with equal emotional beats. Mani Ratnam’s recent ‘Cheka Shivantha Vamanam’ also discovered the topics of power, loyalty and betrayal within a gangster setup.

While the structure may seem familiar, Mani Ratnam is known to bring emotional depth and visual style to such stories. ‘Thug life’ follows that tradition. Kamal Hasan is seen in several looks over a long time, indicating a character with a layered past. Lotus line, ‘You saved me from the owner of death. From today onwards, we are one ‘, point to deep relationships that may move as the progress of the film.

One of the most striking aspects of the two -minute trailer is the significant weight given to the character of Simbu. This is not just Kamal Haasan’s show. The intensity of the STR in the scene where he declares, “From now on, I am Sathivale,” is powerful and indicates at a significant turn in the story. His commanding screen appearance and body language suggested a compelling face-off with emotional and ideologically lotus character.

Cinematography is moody and style. Lotus’s de-aging is smooth and not out of place. On the other hand, it appears on raw and ground. The chemistry between them can be one of the biggest strength of the film.

Supporting actors like Jujo George, Nasar and Trisha Krishnan also have enough parts, which exceeds only one hero-wise face-off.

Despite its polished trailer, the film pressures to stand in a crowded style. Stylish gangsters, intense monologue and gun fights are not new. But there may be the story of Mani Ratnam and the music difference between AR Rahman. With ‘Thug Jeevan’, hope that an familiar story will get new power through performance, spirit and craft.

The film is going to hit theaters on 5 June.
