Filmmaker Karan Johar finally opened up about his recent Instagram activity after fans noticed that he unfollowed several Bollywood celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Ananya Panday, Kartik Aaryan and designer Manish Malhotra.
Breaking his silence on the speculation, Johar shared a note on Instagram clarifying that the move was part of a “digital detox” and not linked to any dispute with industry colleagues. “This is a digital detox!!! I’m unfollowing everyone to reduce my time and energy spent on the gram!!! This can’t be national news for God’s sake…please click something else! This is irrelevant!” He has written.

Johar’s clarification came as social media users closely monitored the changes in his following list, especially because many of the removed names were considered close friends and associates.

Apart from Shah Rukh Khan and Ananya Panday, Johar has also unfollowed actor Kartik Aryan and celebrity designer Manish Malhotra. Many other Bollywood names including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt are also not included in his following list.
Despite widespread unfollowing, actor Priyanka Chopra remains on Johar’s following list, which immediately caught the attention of fans online.
As of Thursday evening, the filmmaker was following 78 accounts on Instagram despite having 17.5 million followers on Instagram.
