Thinking about Lasik? Do doctors want you to know first

Lasik surgery has been a favorite option for quick and reliable vision improvement in India. However, not everyone is an ideal candidate. Doctors have warned that not everyone is favorable for this surgery, despite its popularity.

At its core, Lasik is a laser surgery that reaches the cornea, clear dome in front of the eye.

People with poor visions rely on glasses or contact lenses, until the arrival of lanik surgery, Situ becomes smaller to laser-assisted in keratomylosis. It provides quick and reliable vision improvement.

Across India, it has become one of the most sought -of processes, especially among young adults who dream of living without continuous dependence on glasses.

At its core, Lasik is a laser surgery that reaches the cornea, clear dome in front of the eye.

By entering the light and focusing on the retina, the process cures normal vision problems such as proximity, foresight and vision. The appeal lies in its promise of rapid vision almost immediately with a short recovery period.

Who can benefit from Lasik?

Not everyone is a candidate for Lasik, and this is the place where expert screening becomes important.

“The cornea must have sufficient thickness and size so that safe resurrection can be allowed,” Dr. Prabhakar GV tells Consultant cataract cornea lacques at Shankar Eye Hospital in Hyderabad, indialoday.in that the surgery works best for adults over 18 years of age.

He says that patients should not have infections like keratoconus, dry eye disease or uncontrolled conditions.

Dr. According to Sanjana Vats, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Bangalore, healthy eyes and overall good health advisors are essential ophthalmologists.

“With any very thin cornea, its size abnormalities, severe dry eyes, cataract, glucoma, or systemic issues such as uncontrolled diabetes are suitable for lymph. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are also temporary disqualified,” she explains.

Age also plays a role. Lasik is usually recommended between 20 and 40 years, when the power of the eye is stable and pre -reading begins before the changes related to age.

“Beyond 60, cataract becomes more common, and in such cases, other surgery can be more suitable,” Dr. Prabhakar says.

Dr. Vatsa says that while Lasik can still be performed in the late 40s, beyond this, cataract surgery can be a better option as it can address both distance and near vision.

Risk, results and realistic expectations

Like any surgery, Lasik comes with risks, although serious complications with modern technology are rare.

In the days and weeks after surgery, patients may experience irritation, dryness, dazzle or halos around the lights.

“These are common in short term, but are solved within three to six months,” Dr. Prabhakar says.

Many patients initially experience some dryness or visual disturbances, but these problems continue to face in less than 5%.

Can Lasik make your eyes right forever?

Most patients ask the question whether Lasik guarantees a spectacle -free life forever.

Honest answer, doctors say, not.

“Most people receive 6/6 vision or are close to it, which means that they rarely require glasses for daily tasks. But perfection cannot be promised,” Dr. Prabhakar says.

Long -term factor on digital devices, very fine prints or age -related changes may still require the use of glasses.

Dr. Vatsa explains that while 95% of patients get excellent vision after surgery, people with too much eye power may still require low-intensive glasses for fine-tuning.

For the majority, the results are permanent, but a small number can notice some regression of vision over time, especially if they had high myopia to start.

About five to ten percent may require a second corrective process, which is sometimes called “growth”, if the initial improvement does not fully meet the expectations.

Lasik and beyond

Lasik is still the most popular refractory surgery worldwide due to its speed, safety and estimated results.

Nevertheless, new processes are gradually getting their place. Smile, a flapless technique, includes a small incision and it is considered a gentleer on the cornea, making it appeal to people with too much myopia or who play contact games.

PRK, a surface process, is another option for people with thin cornea, although it has a long time.

Despite these new options, Dr. Prabhakar and Dr. Both Vatsa says that when patients are carefully selected, Lasic provides excellent results.

A fully pre-scorpio assessment, which checks the thickness and size of the cornea, assesses the size of the tear film and the pupil, and the rules out of hidden eye disease, are non-circumcision.

Dr. Prabhakar says, “A good surgeon will never be lymph.” “Proper screening is the key to safety.”

Lasik is not about a miraculous treatment, but about freedom – freedom from glasses or contact lenses for most activities of life.

With proper evaluation and realistic expectations, Lasik can change life vision and quality.

But remember: It reduces dependence on glasses, rather than promising a spectacle -free life.
