The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon gets season 3 renewal ahead of upcoming season 2

AMC has recently announced the renewal of the third season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon-The Book of Carol, just two months before the premiere of its second season. In the spinoff of the famous zombie apocalypse series, we will see Norman Reedus reprising his role as Carol alongside Melissa McBride. In search of Daryl, Carol begins her journey through the desolate landscapes of France. At San Diego Comic-Con, the announcement was made, and both Reedus and McBride were present to promote the series.

Deadline reported that production on the third season will begin next month. Even the filming location will change from France to Madrid, Spain – a change that Reedus recently told fans about. The series earned high ratings last year, proving that AMC’s decision to renew the series was a well-planned one, and AMC continues to attract viewers! At a Comic-Con panel on Friday, the series’ season 2 trailer was released. It was attended by Reedus and McBride, along with David Zabel, executive producer Greg Nicotero, and cast member Luis Puech Cigliuzzi, who plays Laurent.

McBride is excited about Daryl Dixon moving to Spain in Season 3

Picking up soon after the last episode of The Walking Dead ended, Season 1 began with Daryl being on the road and finding a purpose. Near the coast of Maine, he encountered trouble and boarded a ship headed to France. From there, he escaped and joined a group of survivors in Paris. The season ended with Daryl planning to stay in France instead of heading back home. But Carol was still looking for him and was determined to find him. In the second season trailer, we saw them battling both human and zombie opponents and it ended with a teaser of their reunion.

McBride recently expressed great enthusiasm about the show’s move to Spain in a statement announcing the third season renewal. He said, ,I appreciate the new challenges for Daryl and Carol, as they are so far removed from everything they have ever known… There’s still a lot to unpack for Season 2 and a great finale to come in France. And now Spain! I already know that David Zabel’s story is making the most of all the beautiful and unique things about Spain. We’ll start shooting there in just a few weeks. There’s so much excitement to look forward to!”

The Walking Dead’s other spinoffs revealed

Before the final episode of The Walking Dead airs in November 2022, production begins on three new spinoffs. These expand the franchise and the actors explore new storylines from the original series. In June 2023, The Walking Dead: Dead City premieres. We find out that Maggie (Lauren Cohan) meets Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) while searching for her kidnapped son in New York City.

In September 2023, Daryl Dixon returned to The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live and brought back Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Dania Gurira), premiering in February 2024. As of now, Dead City was renewed for a second season but the future of The Ones Who Lives was still unknown.

The upcoming season 2 of Daryl Dixon is set to premiere on September 29

The series followed three earlier spinoffs. In 2015, Fear the Walking Dead premiered and ended its eighth season in October 2023. In the fourth season, we saw Kim Dickens, Colman Domingo, and Lennie James. In 2022, The Walking Dead: The World Beyond premiered and ran for two seasons. It fell victim to poor ratings and a lackluster fan response. In 2022, the anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead premiered with six episodes. So far, no new episodes have been announced.

On September 29, 2024, the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol will premiere on AMC and AMC+.
