Filmmaker Neeraj Gaywan’s film ‘Homebound’ received a 9 -minute long standing ovation at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The emotional response of the audience shed and overwhelmed the entire team.
‘Homebound’, which is Ishaan Khat, Janhvi Kapoor and Vishal Jethwa, this year is the only Indian feature film selected for the festival. It premiered in some honor section of the prestigious United Nations, a special category in Cannes, which highlights unique and powerful stories.
After the screening, in a video posted on X (East Twitter) by the official handle of Dharma Productions, the audience gave a long round of applause, which stood on its feet for about 9 minutes. Director Neeraj Gaywan was seen hugging producer Karan Johar with tears in his eyes. The other crew members along with the other crew members were smiling and emotional as they accepted praise.
“9 minutes of pure love and applause! Team ‘Homebound’ is receiving all appreciation on @festative_cannes!” Religion Productions wrote on X.
The film tells the story of two childhood friends from a small village in North India, who dream of becoming a police officer to get respect and dignity. But as they get closer to their goals, their friendship is tested by pressure and frustration.
The film was written by Neeraj Ghaywan and Sumit Roy. It is produced by Karan Johar, other Poonwal, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra, with support of co-produced Marizk de Suja and Melita Toscan du planter. In a huge boost, legendary Hollywood director Martin Scorscie has joined the project as an executive manufacturer.
Neeraj Gaywan is already known for his first film ‘Masons’ internationally, who also premiered in Cannes and won two big awards there.
