The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, launched in January 2024, introduced Corning’s new Gorilla Armor Glass, which was considered the strongest Gorilla Glass at the time. This advanced glass not only stands out for its impressive protection against drops and scratches, but also its anti-reflective coating, making the S24 Ultra’s screen the least reflective in smartphone history. For users, this was a disruptor, allowing for improved visibility and usability, especially outdoors. Now, the latest rumors suggest that Samsung is doubling down on this feature for its next flagship.

According to Ice Universe, a reliable leaker on X (formerly Twitter), the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra will be the first and only phone to use Corning’s second-generation Gorilla Glass armor. The new version is expected to retain the anti-reflective properties that make the S24 Ultra unique but may take things even further with improved durability and improved reflection reduction. If true, it could further cement Samsung’s reputation for leading display technology.

For those unaware, anti-reflective coatings may not sound exciting at first. But the difference they make is easy to recognize. Just put the S24 Ultra next to any other smartphone, and you’ll notice how much less glare and reflection there is on Samsung’s flagship. It’s not just about aesthetics – it’s also a practical feature. Less reflection means the screen looks brighter without the need to increase brightness levels. This is great for saving battery life, and it’s a big help for those who struggle with glare, whether caused by sunlight or light sensitivity.

If this rumor pans out, the same could be true for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Although specific details regarding the second-generation Gorilla Glass Armor have not been confirmed, it is safe to assume that Corning refined its formula to make the new glass even tougher and more effective at reducing reflections will be.
Samsung is focusing on unique selling points like this to make its flagship phones stand out. While competitors focus on megapixels and fast charging, Samsung is committed to giving users practical benefits they can see and feel. For the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the inclusion of better Gorilla Glass armor could be one such benefit.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to launch on January 22, 2025, although Samsung has not yet officially announced the date. Rumors suggest that the S25 Ultra will abandon the boxy look of the S24 Ultra in favor of gentle curves around the corners. The phone is also expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset under the hood, and it may also come with a 16GB RAM option for the first time on a flagship Samsung smartphone.
