The release of the Malayalam film ‘Janaki vs State of Kerala’ starring Union Minister and actor Suresh Gopi has been stopped after the demand of the Censor Board for Film Certification (CBFC) about the change in the title of the film. According to the producers of the film, the censor board asked him to change the name ‘Janaki’ as it also refers to the Hindu Goddess Sita. The film tells the story of a woman who faced sexual harassment and is chasing a legal battle against the state.

The board allegedly stated that the name of God should not be given to a woman who was attacked. The release of the film was scheduled for 27 June. Union Minister Suresh Gopi has not yet been reacted to the dispute.

The CBFC’s Regional Office at Thiruvananthapuram approved the film with a U/A certificate. The film was later sent to CBFC headquarters in Mumbai and the officials there demanded a change in the title. If the title of the film changes, many dialogues of the film also have to change by mentioning the name.

The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) condemned it and said that if the board continues with its demands, they will organize a protest.

Director MB Padmakumar alleged that his upcoming film ‘Token Number’ also faced a similar issue. After accepting the demands of the board, his film was certified a few days ago and the name was converted into Jayanto.

“My film was censored on 22 May. On 23rd, I came to know about the demand. My character’s name is Janaki Abraham. The film was cleaned by the Trivandrum office, but since it is a feature film, he sent it to Mumbai office and then a demand was not changed. It is known.
