The first set of reviews of the acclaimed The Bear series have arrived, and critics don’t seem too impressed with the third part of the Hulu series, with many of them calling the show ‘frustrating and maddening.’

The Guardian wrote in part of its review, “At its best, this is the best show on TV. But the new season feels half-hearted, its best cast wasted and the ending maddening. Only two episodes are great.”

Meanwhile, USA Today loved the show and called it a tense, engrossing show. It said, “This series is just like the best of the two seasons: still so tense you might get ulcers while watching it, and still filled with sharp scripts, great performances and more trauma processing than any therapist’s office. Bear still grabs you and holds you hostage inside his very special world for 10 episodes. When you get out, you’ll call your friends cousins and yell ‘Hands!’ every time you need someone to hold something. To say it’s engrossing is an understatement.”

Variety called The Bear season 3 flawed and said, “The Bear still finds moments of excellence in its characters’ pursuit of professional excellence and personal growth, yet the show remains more flawed than its enthusiastic praise would suggest.”

Vulture wrote, “In season three, the drama is about how hard it is to hold something up — not to create, renew, or break something, but simply to keep something steady. And often, especially in narrative storytelling, stability feels very much like stuckness.”

Starring Jeremy Allen White, The Bear Season 3 is currently streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar.
