The 2007 Delhi Bar Bill has sparked an online debate on inflation and affordability

A man has preserved a bar bill of 2007 and a photograph of it is now fueling the debate over inflation. A Reddit user shared the old receipt, sparking a discussion about how affordable eating out was at that time and how it shows the increase in prices across India. The total bill of ₹2,522 at the restaurant called The Supper Factory is a throwback to a time when eating out was much cheaper. Of the ten items listed, one dish was priced at less than ₹180. The caption of the post reads, “2 bills received for bar visit in Delhi in 2007. Man, I can’t believe the prices of food and alcohol have gone up so much.”

Soon, reactions started pouring in – some were surprised at how much ₹2,500 could get you back in 2007, while others pointed out that even then, it was not as “pocket-friendly” as claimed.

One user mentioned, “18 years ago, ₹2500 was not so pocket-friendly bhai” (18 years ago, ₹2,500 was not so affordable, man).

In response to this, another user elaborated, “Exactly, in 2007, this quantity was equivalent to around 3 grams of gold which is around 20k in today’s rate, so it was never cheap. ,

“Oh, believe me, this was nowhere near ‘pocket friendly’ in 2007. This was a full month’s rent for an independent one-room apartment,” read another.
