Ali Asgar said that she quit playing the role of a grandmother in The Kapil Sharma Show because she started getting offers to play only female roles. He said that he wants to move beyond typecasting and develop as an actor.
Actor Ali Asgar reveals that he has distanced himself from his popular grandmother act The Kapil Sharma Show As he felt he was “starting to get that image” and was being limited to the same roles. While the character brought him immense fame, Ali shared that he wanted to break free from typecasting and explore more as an actor.
In a conversation with Maniesh Paul on his YouTube channel, Ali recalled the period in his career when he was almost exclusively cast in drag roles.

He said, “People who are watching it might say, ‘Is he crazy? Why did he leave it?’ But at that time, comedy circus It will air on Saturday and Sunday, and I will play a female character in both the episodes. So I started getting that image.” She further added that, for the show’s writers, this kind of typecasting was convenient because they just needed to keep writing female characters for them.
Despite the popularity of these demonstrations, Ali admits he feels limited creatively And wanted to work more as an actor. He shared that he often requested opportunities to try different roles.
He said, “Sometimes, you feel bad and you think this is not all I want to do. I want to do more. I would say, ‘Give me a chance. Let me at least try. If it doesn’t work out, let me know.’
Nevertheless, there were some practical considerations that led him to accept such roles, including financial responsibilities and fear of losing work.
He explained that he continued doing such roles because he needed the work, as it was his livelihood. He said the risk of being replaced was always there and he went with the flow for a long time without realizing it.
Maniesh Paul asked whether Ali Asgar’s huge popularity in such roles ultimately backfired, causing his children to be bullied because of his portrayal of female characters.
