famous tabla player 73-year-old Zakir Hussain died on Sunday in San Francisco, where he was being treated for health problems. As soon as the news of his demise was received, condolences poured in. Actors Ranveer Singh, Riteish Deshmukh, filmmakers Zoya Akhtar, Hansal Mehta and singer Anup Jalota, among others, paid tribute to the famous percussionist.

Actor Riteish Deshmukh wrote an emotional note for the late tabla player. He said, “The irreparable loss of Zakir Hussain Sahab is a devastating blow to India and the global music community. Sir, your music was a gift, a treasure that will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come. Your legacy will live on.” Your soul surrounded by rhythms and tunes, Condolences to the family and loved ones of the great Zakir Hussain Sahab (sic).

Film director Hansal Mehta wrote on Gave. Goodbye Ustad Zakir Hussain (sic).”

Earlier this year, Zakir Hussain won three awards at the 66th Grammy Awards: Best Global Music Album (The Moment by Shakti), Best Global Music Performance (Pashto), and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album (As We Speak).
