famous tabla player 73-year-old Zakir Hussain died on Sunday in San Francisco, where he was being treated for health problems. As soon as the news of his demise was received, condolences poured in. Actors Ranveer Singh, Riteish Deshmukh, filmmakers Zoya Akhtar, Hansal Mehta and singer Anup Jalota, among others, paid tribute to the famous percussionist.

Expressing his condolences to Zakir Hussain’s family, Farhan Akhtar wrote on Instagram, “One of the greatest artists of our times is no more. Thank you Zakir bhai, the happiness you gave the world through your music and your humanity.” Thank you for that. RIP family. @zakirhq9 #maestro (sic).
