Lava earlier this month announced its partnership with Flipkart for its new Virat smartphone series built for the youth and online-first buyers. And as promised, the Indian handset maker has today launched the Virat V1 and Virat V1 5G as the first smartphones under the Virat series with a price tag of Rs 15,000 ($155/€135).

First of all let’s talk about Lava Virat V1 5G. It is powered by Unisoc T8200 SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone has 64GB storage, which can be expanded up to 1TB via microSD card. In terms of software, the Lava Virat V1 5G runs Android 16 without ads or bloatware, but it’s unclear how many years of software support it will get.
The Virat V1 5G is built with a 6.75″ HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display also has a notch for a 5MP selfie camera. There is a dual-camera setup at the back, which is equipped with a 13MP camera.

Fueling the Virat V1 5G is a 6,000 mAh battery that draws up to 10W of power via a USB-C port.
The rest of the highlights of the Lava Virat V1 5G include a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a dedicated microSD card slot, Bluetooth 5.0, and an IP64 rating.
The Lava Virat V1 5G comes in Arya Blue and Sonar Gold colors, and will be available on sale in India starting July 31 via Lava’s official website and Flipkart. Its price is Rs 12,999, but on the first day of the sale it will be available for Rs 11,999.

Now let’s talk about Lava Virat V1, which does not have 5G connectivity. There’s also a different chip on top of it – Unisoc SC9863A. The OS is also different: Android 15 Go vs Android 16. But Lava says it is devoid of ads and bloatware.
The RAM and storage space on the V1 is the same as the V1 5G, but the storage can only be expanded up to 256GB. The Virat V1 comes equipped with a 6.75″ HD+ notch display like its 5G counterpart; however, the screen refresh rate is capped at 90Hz.

The battery capacity of the V1 is also different – 5,000 vs 6,000 mAh – even though its charging speed is the same as the V1 5G. The camera resolutions are also the same: 13MP for the primary camera and 5MP for the selfie camera.
Other features on the Lava Virat V1 include a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a dedicated microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.2, and an IP64 rating.
Lava Virat V1 is offered in Nilgiri Blue and Himalayan Silver colors, and will go on sale in India from July 31 via Lava’s official website and Flipkart.
The price of Virat V1 is Rs 9,999, but it will be available for Rs 8,999 on the first day of the sale.
Both the Virat V1 and Virat V1 5G come with Lava’s free home service.
