Police identified a freelance assistant editor of another film as the main accused
A new update has come out in Thalapathy Vijay’s Jan Nayakan leak case. Three new people have been arrested for allegedly purchasing and broadcasting the film. A press note from the state cyber crime wing mentioned that, after six arrests, three more accused were put behind bars for their involvement in data theft and dissemination of the film.
The press note being circulated online further states that the main accused was working as a freelance assistant editor for another film. Apparently, he gained unauthorized access to the reels of Vijay’s last film in the editing studio and stole it.
The statement further said, “The stolen data was then presented in a film and shared with the co-accused, leading to online circulation and wide dissemination of the pirated copy. All three accused have been arrested, produced before the Honorable Court and remanded to judicial custody.” At present, 9 arrests have been made in the case.
Earlier, the producers had issued a statement warning people of consequences if they watch the film. In the public release, he mentioned that Jana Nayakan has been produced by investing several hundred crores of rupees, and the film has huge theatrical, satellite, OTT and commercial value.
Warning of strict action, he wrote, “It is informed that downloading, forwarding, sharing, uploading, reposting, storing or transmitting such leaked scenes or clips of the movie Jan Nayakan through WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, Xx, YouTube, websites, torrents or any other digital medium amounts to a serious criminal offense and copyright infringement and every person involved will be personally liable for criminal action.”
For those unaware, director H.Vinoth’s Jana Nayakan was earlier scheduled to release on January 9, 2026.
